The Public Provident Fund or a PPF is one of the investment schemes introduced by the National Savings Institute of the Ministry of Finance to help Indians save for their retirement. Individuals can build a huge corpus while investing in the PPF. A timely PPF balance check is essential for them to keep track of the balance available in their PPF account.

This blog guides you in understanding the different ways you can check your PPF balance. It also provides tips to you for building a good corpus in your account.

What is PPF Balance?

The Public Provident Fund is a safe investment option that comes with a 15-year maturity period extendible by blocks of five years. You can withdraw the total deposited amount from your PPF account after this maturity period. The total deposited amount in your PPF account is the PPF balance. Understanding the PPF balance check process is crucial to get an idea about the accumulated amount in your PPF account.

What is the Interest Rate of PPF?

Your PPF balance includes the principal deposit amount and the accrued interest rate. In each quarter, the government sets and revises these interest rates. For the financial year 2024-25, the interest rate of PPF is 7.1% per annum.

The interest is deposited in your PPF account at the end of each financial year. The PPF balance check process can assist you in getting informed about your total balance.

Download the Stable Money application to avail attractive interest rates from fixed deposits (FD) and bonds. Using the Stable Money application, you can get interest rates up to 9.50% from FDs without opening any bank account.

Importance of PPF Balance Check

Understanding the PPF balance check allows individuals to keep track of the interest they earn at the end of each year. Below are some of the key reasons for which it is important to check your PPF balance:

  • The interest rates in a PPF can change every quarter of the year. Therefore, interest earned on the deposit from PPF changes throughout the investment tenure. Checking your PPF balance becomes crucial as you will receive this earned interest rate in your PPF account after each financial year.
  • PPF balance check also helps you to track your savings progress. It gives an idea of how much you have saved and how much amount you have to invest to achieve your financial goals.
  • Checking your Public Provident Fund balance is crucial for you to plan for your withdrawal. After checking the PPF balance, you can freely decide for what purposes you will use the PPF amount.
  • You can make a partial withdrawal from your PPF after the 5th year. Keeping track of your PPF balance helps to have a clear idea of how much funds you can partially withdraw after completing the requisite tenure.
