Share on:

Residents of India could traditionally download their e-Aadhaar (PDF version of the Aadhaar letter) via the official Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website, or via apps like mAadhaar or the cloud service DigiLocker.

But now there is another convenient option i.e. WhatsApp chatbot managed by MyGov Helpdesk which interfaces with DigiLocker and allows you to download your Aadhaar PDF via WhatsApp. This means you can get your Aadhaar card directly in a chat on WhatsApp without navigating the website, installing another app, or dealing with complicated captchas. Continue reading to know more about downloading aadhar card via whatsapp.

Why is this useful?

Convenience:

Most users already have WhatsApp, thus using the chatbot eliminates the need to log into websites or navigate complex routines.

Speed:

The OTP-based process via WhatsApp is swift, and the PDF is delivered quickly in chat.

Accessibility:

Useful when you don't have access to a computer or are on the go and need the Aadhaar PDF right away.

Same validity:

The downloaded PDF from DigiLocker/UIDAI is just as legitimate as the printed Aadhaar letter.

What are the Prerequisites to Avail this Feature?

Before starting the Whatsapp download procedure, make sure you have the following:

  • A registered mobile number that is linked to your Aadhaar on which OTPs can be sent.
  • A valid DigiLocker account (if you don't already have one, you may need to create one).
  • The WhatsApp option is linked to DigiLocker document retrieval.
  • The right WhatsApp contact number i.e. +91 90131 51515 (MyGov Helpdesk).
  • A smartphone with WhatsApp and a reliable internet connection.

How to Download Aadhaar via WhatsApp

Here’s the step-by-step process to download aadhaar via whatsapp

  • Save +91 90131 51515 as "MyGov Helpdesk" in your phone's contacts.
  • Open WhatsApp and initiate a new conversation with this number.  Send a greeting such as "Hi" or "Namaste".
  • The chatbot will respond with options.
  • Choose "DigiLocker Services" (or a similar choice from the menu).
  • If you already have a DigiLocker account, you will be prompted for your Aadhaar number.  If not, it may prompt you to create one first.
  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number when prompted.
  • You will receive an OTP to your registered mobile number.
  • Enter this OTP into the conversation for verification.
  • After verification, the chatbot will display a list of available documents in your DigiLocker.
  • Select "Aadhaar Card/e-Aadhaar".
  • The PDF of your Aadhaar will be sent to the chat.
  • Download and save it, possibly both on your phone and in a secure backup.
  • You can then open the PDF using the password, which is normally the first four letters of your name (in uppercase) plus your year of birth.

What to know about Security & Verification

  • The WhatsApp PDF is digitally signed by UIDAI/DigiLocker, thus it is as legitimate as the printed version. Because the OTP is sent to your registered mobile number, unauthorized users cannot readily download your Aadhaar unless they have access to your phone and number.  Before you interact with someone on WhatsApp, always verify their phone number.
  • Use only the official MyGov Helpdesk number; ignore calls that promise to provide comparable services. Because Aadhaar is a critical identity document, you should erase the chat or save it in a secure place (or encrypted backup).
  • If your cellphone number is not connected to Aadhaar, this approach will not work; you must first update your Aadhaar mobile number at UIDAI.

When Should You Consider Using This WhatsApp Option?

If you forget to bring your Aadhaar card and need the digital version immediately.  When you are on the go and do not have access to a laptop or browser.  Make a secure digital backup on your phone or in the cloud.  When you don't want to have to log into different portals, use this quick and easy technique.

Few Things to Consider

  • This is not a physical card, but rather an electronic PDF (e-Aadhaar).  You may still need to print it for banks or other organizations if necessary.  The cellphone number must be linked to Aadhaar.
  • If the service is unlinked, it will not function.  While the service is official, only utilize authorized methods and avoid third-party services that promise easier/faster downloads; they could be scams.
  • If you subsequently update your Aadhaar (address, name, etc.), be sure to redownload the new version.  This method only works for your own Aadhaar; you cannot download someone else's Aadhaar using your number.

Conclusion

Downloading your Aadhaar over WhatsApp is a step forward in ease and digital accessibility.  It integrates a sophisticated procedure into a platform that everyone uses every day: WhatsApp.  However, with great convenience comes the duty to protect your identity.  Make sure your mobile number is safe, only utilize official methods (MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp), and handle the downloaded document with the same care as the real card.

With the proper precautions, this method provides a rapid, secure, and dependable way to access your Aadhaar ideal for when you're short on time or on the go.  Go ahead:  Save the number, open WhatsApp, and download your Aadhaar in minutes but proceed with caution.
