UIDAI to Roll Out At-Home Mobile Number Update for Aadhaar

Updating a mobile number in an Aadhaar card requires in-person visits to the enrollment centre because this number is linked to the identity verification and other aadhaar services.  This process is tedious and time taking especially for senior citizens and disabled people as it involves long queues with repeated visits to the enrollment center. 

UIDAI is all set to roll out a new feature to solve this issue allowing users to update their mobile number easily from their home without the need to visit the enrollment centre. UIDAI has recently revealed this in a social media post, this update is expected to simplify time-consuming aadhaar services. 

New Mobile Number Feature Update in Aadhaar card

UIDAI is creating an at-home updating system that will use a combination of OTP verification and Aadhaar's facial authentication technologies.  This implies that consumers will be able to validate their identification with their smartphone camera and finish the mobile number upgrade in a safe, entirely digital environment.  According to the UIDAI's social media post on X, early adopters can provide feedback at .  Once deployed, individuals will just need their Aadhaar number, an existing or new cell number, and a smartphone capable of facial recognition to complete the authentication process.

Features of the Aadhaar App

Multi Profile: Aadhaar holders can add up to five profiles to their profile section.  

Biometric locking/unlocking: This function protects biometric authentication by locking biometric data. Once enabled, biometrics are locked until the Aadhaar bearer unlocks or disables the system.  

Update of profile: Following a successful update request, the app shows updated 

Aadhaar profile data: Sharing QR codes and valid credentials allows users to share their Aadhaar information for paperless verification.  

Offline access: The software allows a user to scan the QR code on his Aadhaar card for offline verification.

As of today, Aadhaar subscribers must still visit an enrolment site to have their mobile numbers updated.  However, with the impending deployment, the days of standing in line for this normal update may come to an end.

How to Book an Appointment for Offline Updation of Mobile Number?

• Visit the official UIDAI website.

• Then, click on Get Aadhaar.  
• Next, click Book an Appointment.  
• Enter your city or location and click 'Proceed to Book Appointment'.
