What is e-PAN?

e-PAN card is a traditional PAN card’s digital version which is issued by the income tax department. This is an eco-friendly alternative to the physical card which avoids the need to carry the physical card. Instant e-PAN card

An instant e-PAN card can be applied by anyone having a valid aadhaar card. Anyone not having a PAN card can apply for an instant e-PAN card on the income tax portal without the need to fill any application or submit any documents. Instant e-PAN card applications need to file aadhaar number and OTP which is received on the registered mobile number.

Eligibility of e-PAN card-

Here is the eligibility criteria of applying for a e-PAN card- 

  • User must be an Indian Citizens
  • Anyone who does not hold a PAN card 
  • Must have mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card
  • User should not be minor on the date of the request
  • Anyone who is not covered under section 160 of the income tax act 

How to Apply for an Instant e-PAN card?

Here is the process of applying for a instant e-PAN card-

  • Visit e-filing portal
  • Click on Instant e-PAN

  • Click on get new e-PAN

  • Now, enter 12-digit Aadhaar number
  • Click on the checkbox to confirm and continue

  • Click on the checkbox to give the consent. 
  • Click on continue.

  • Now, enter six digit OTP which is received on the registered mobile number
  • Click on the checkbox to verify the aadhaar details 
  • Click on continue

  • Now, click on I Accept that checkbox and Continue.

  • Click on link e-mail ID if not updated in Aadhaar, enter OTP received and continue
  • Once submitted, a message with acknowledgement number will be displayed on the screen with a confirmation message on the aadhaar linked mobile number. 

How to Update PAN Details as per Aadhaar e-KYC

Here is how to update your PAN details as per the Aadhaar e-KYC

  • Visit the e-Filing portal 
  • Click on the Instant e-PAN option

Enter 12-digit Aadhaar number

Click on the checkbox to confirm and continue.

  • Enter 6-digit OTP received on the registered mobile number 
  • Click on continue

  • Select the details by clicking on the checkbox which needs to be updated as per aadhaar e-KYC
  • Next click on continue

  • Click on confirm.

Once confirmed, a success message with the acknowledgement number is displayed with a confirmation message on the registered mobile number. 

How to Check the Status of Pending e-PAN Request?

Here is how to check status of the pending e-PAN request and download an e-PAN card- 

  • Visit the e-Filing portal 
  • Click on the Instant e-PAN option.

  • Click on continue under check status / Download PAN option.
  • Enter 12-digit aadhaar number and click on continue. 
  • Enter the 6-digit OTP received on the registered mobile number 
  • Click on continue. 
  • Next, the current status of your e-PAN will be displayed 
  • If a new e-PAN has been allotted, click on view e-PAN to view or Download e-PAN in order to download a copy. 

How to Download e-PAN after Login 

  • Visit the e-Filing portal

  • Next, click on View / Download e-PAN. 
  • Now, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number

How to Download an e-PAN Card on NSDL?

  • Visit the NSDL Protean portal.

  • Click on download e-PAN

  • Enter the acknowledgement number or PAN, date of birth, validate re-captcha
  • Click on submit
  • Select email ID or mobile number 
  • Click on the ‘Generate OTP’ option.
  • Enter the OTP received and click ‘Validate’. 
  • Now, Click on the ‘Download PDF’ button.

  • Scroll down to ‘Download e-PAN’
