How to Perform Aadhaar and PAN Card Link After the Deadline?
Author Updated on Apr 12, 2025
As per the Indian Income Tax (IT) Regulations, the last date for the Aadhaar and PAN card link was June 30, 2023. If an individual failed to do so, their PAN became inoperative from July 1, 2023. However, they can still link their Adhaar with PAN by paying a fine of ₹1,000.
Additionally, those who have failed to link Aadhaar and PAN before May 31, 2024, have to pay the income tax and Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) at a higher rate.
This blog guides you on how to perform your Aadhaar and PAN card link after the deadline and analyses the consequences of not doing so.
How to Check PAN-Aadhar Link Status Online?
Follow the below steps to check the status of your Aadhaar and PAN card link before applying:
Step 1: Go to the official page of the e-filing of the Income Tax Department portal.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’.

Consequences of Not Linking Aadhaar with PAN Card
You might face some serious issues if you still have not linked your PAN and Aadhaar. Below are some of the consequences of not linking your Aadhaar with your PAN card:
- An inoperative PAN prevents you from filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) or receiving tax refunds.
- As a taxpayer, you have to pay Tax Collected at Source (TCS) or Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) at a higher rate.
- TCS or TDS credits will not reflect in Form 26AS, and related certificates will no longer be accessible.
- Since your PAN card will become inoperative, some bank accounts may get deactivated. This can disrupt financial transactions and the access to banking services.
- You cannot deposit more than ₹50,000 in cash in a single day at a bank or post office.
- You will be unable to buy or sell goods or services in transactions exceeding ₹2,00,000.
- An inoperative PAN may affect your eligibility for welfare schemes and government subsidies.
Despite all of these, you can reactivate your PAN card within 30 days after linking it with your Aadhaar by paying a fee of ₹1,000.
