What Are the Documents Required for Aadhaar Card Update?

Aadhaar is a key identification document that allows you to avail numerous government services. According to the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations of 2016, it is mandatory for individuals to keep their Aadhaar details up-to-date. This includes updating their proof of identity and proof of address to ensure accuracy. Upon completing 10 years from the date of Aadhaar enrollment, individuals are required to update these documents to maintain the validity and authenticity of their Aadhaar information.

Aadhaar Card Update Last Date and Charges

Before getting into the documents required for Aadhaar card update, you need to know the last date or charges associated with it. By making an announcement, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updates till June 14, 2025. You can avail the free service of Aadhaar update only on the myAadhaar portal.

After June 14, 2025, you will be levied a fee of ₹50 for updating your details online in the UIDAI portal. To update the details of your Aadhaar in offline centres, you also have to pay ₹50 for demographic and document updates, and ₹100 for the biometric update.

Details to be Updated in Aadhaar Both Online and Offline 

It is important to know which details can be updated in your Aadhaar card to ensure you have the documents required for Aadhaar card update ready. You can update your address, Proof of Identity (PoI), and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online through the UIDAI portal.

On the other hand, you can update or change demographic information like your name, date of birth (DoB), gender, address, email ID and mobile number by visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. You must carry the required documents to update your demographic information. You do not have to carry any document for updating your biometrics, mobile number as well as email ID.

  • Driving licence of the applicant
  • Photo identity cards issued by the Government of India
  • Service photo ID cards issued by PSUs

  • Legally approved name change certificate
  • Ration or PDS Photo card
  • Licence of Arms
  • Bank ATM card Photo
  • Credit card Photo
  • Photo card of the Pensioner
  • Photo card of the Freedom Fighter
  • Kisan Photo Passbook
  • Photo card of CGHS
  • Certificate of Marriage that was issued by the Marriage Registrar

List of Proof of Date of Birth (DOB) Documents Required for Aadhaar Card Update

Below are the documents required for Aadhaar card update to correct your DoB:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate/SSLC Book
  • Passport of the applicant
  • Pension Payment Order (Central or State)
  • PAN Card
  • Marksheet issued by a Government Board/University
  • Photo ID card containing DOB, issued by a recognised Educational Institution
  • An ID Card or certificate having a photo and DOB duly signed and issued by a Government authority
  • Government Photo Id Card or PSU issued ID card or Photo Identity Proof or which contains DoB
  • Date of birth Certificate on their letterhead issued by either the Tehsildar or the Gazetted Officer
  • Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme Photo Identity card or Central Government Health Service Scheme Photo Card
  • School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/School Transfer Certificate (TC) having name and DOB
  • Extract of School Records issued by Head of School containing DOB, name, and photo
  • Certificate of Identity containing name, date of birth, and photograph issued by recognised Educational Institution signed by Head of Institute
  • Certificate of identity containing name, DOB, and photograph issued by EPFO.

List of Proof of Address (PoA) Documents Required to Update Aadhaar Card

You have to submit the below Aadhaar card address change documents:

  • Passbook or Account statement of the Post Office
  • Bank Statement in which the applicant has an account
  • Passbook of the bank where the applicant is an account holder
  • Passport
  • Ration Card
  • Voter Identification card
  • Government-issued photo identity card
  • PSU issued Service photo ID card
  • The previous 3 months' electricity bill
  • Water bill not more than 3 months old
  • Driving licence of the applicant
  • The previous three months' telephone landline bill
  • Spouse’s or partner’s passport
  • Last three months’ Credit Card statement
  • Insurance policy
  • Photo and a letter signed by the bank on letterhead
  • Signed letter and photo on the letterhead of the company issued by the registered office
  • Photo and signed letter issued by a well-known educational enterprise on their letterhead
  • Job card of NREGS
  • Arms licence
  • Pensioner card
  • Freedom fighter card
  • Kisan passbook
  • CGHS card
  • Registered agreement for sale, lease, or rent of the applicant's residential address
  • Receipt showing the Property Tax of the last 3 months
  • Address Certificate issued by the Village Panchayat head or any authority equivalent to them for rural areas
  • Assessment order of the Income Tax
  • Registration certificate of vehicle
  • ECHS card
  • Photo and address card by the Department of Posts
  • Caste and Domicile certificate along with a photo that the State Government has issued.
  • Submitting parents' passports is essential for a minor
  • Address certificate with a photo on their letterhead that is issued either by a Ministry of Parliament (MP), Ministry of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Gazetted Officer
  • Gas connection bill for the previous three months
  • A handicapped medical certificate or a disability Identification card, issued by either a State Government, Union Territories (UT) Government, or any other administration.

Documents Required for Proof of Relationship (POR) (Containing Name of Child and Name of Head of Family (HoF)) 

You may have to submit the below POR documents required for Aadhaar card update:

  • PDS Card
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Pension card
  • Army’s Canteen card
  • MGNREGA Job card
  • A family entitlement document that is issued by any state or central government
  • Passport
  • Medical card issued by the State Government, ECHS, CGHS, and also ESIC
  • Birth Certificate issued by Registrar of Birth or Municipal Corporation or any local government body
  • Bhamashah Card or Jan-Aadhaar card issued by the Rajasthan government
  • Discharge cards issued by government hospitals during childbirth
  • Address card including name and photo, issued by the Department of Posts
  • Identity certificate that consists of a photo and relationship with the head of the family issued by the Village Panchayat Head or its equivalent authority in rural areas
  • Identity certificate that consists of a photo issued by anyone from MP, MLC, MLA, Gazetted Officer, or the Municipal Councillor

Step-by-Step Process to Update Aadhaar Online

By reviewing the list of documents required for Aadhaar card update, you can conveniently make changes to your Aadhaar details from the comfort of your home using any device. However, ensure you complete the update process before June 14, 2025, to avoid paying a fee of ₹50. If you miss this deadline, you will have to pay the prescribed fee to update your Aadhaar card details.

Here’s how you can update your Aadhaar details online after June 14, 2025:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI website and choose ‘Document Update’ from the ‘myAadhaar’ tab. Click this link to visit directly to the myAadhaar portal.

Step 2: Log in to the website by putting your Aadhaar number and the OTP that you receive on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Update Address in your Aadhaar’ option.

Step 4: Enter the address in the required field and upload scanned copies of the original documents to update the address.

Step 5: Now pay ₹50 using a debit or credit card, or through net banking as a fee.

Step 6: You will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) that will help you to track your update request.

Step 7: After verifying your request, UIDAI's internal quality check operators will send you an SMS that contains the Enrollment ID.

Step 8: Your request will be completed and you receive an SMS regarding the same after some validations by the backend software. It will take a maximum of 30 days to complete the update requests. Then you can download the updated version.

Step-by-Step Process to Update Aadhaar Offline

You may also update your name, gender, DoB, address, email ID, mobile number or biometric information on your Aadhaar card offline following these below steps:

  • Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or the Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
  • Step 2: Submit the required documents that are necessary for demographic updates. Updating your biometrics, email, and mobile number does not need any documentation.
  • Step 3: Submitting a request, you will receive an acknowledgement slip for future use.
